The seasons are changing, and we are in full swing here at Learning 4 Life Farm! Our flowers are beautiful, as we currently have Sunflowers, Dahlias, Zinnias, Cosmos, and Snapdragons growing. The student groups planted these beauties in the spring, and are enjoying the opportunity to come back this fall to harvest them to take home!
In our large hoop house, we have been harvesting tomatoes, peppers (hot and mild), cucumbers, squash, and various herbs. When student groups come to visit, they are able to harvest and take home the produce. With any remaining produce, we have been taking deliveries to Happy Dog Farm Stand in Alexandria, Ohio. They are also selling our beautiful alpaca yarn that we recently received back from processing. We urge you to check them out! We are also proud to announce that we have donated over 200 pounds of produce to local food banks. Grand plans are in the works for this fall/winter, as seedlings begin to sprout! With the completion of our heated hoop house project, we anticipate a year-round growing season here at the farm. Providing an opportunity for students to learn about agriculture and walk away with healthy food options that they played such an important role in growing is amazing! So far this school year, we have hosted field trips from Westerville North High School, and our amazing work skills groups from TLS have returned, along with a new group from New Story Columbus. Groups have been learning the ropes of the farm, and are eager to begin tending to the animals and gardens next month. Our annual Alpaca Trot was held on September 14th. Thank you to all who attended! This year a festival type atmosphere was offered, with a band, food trucks, bounce house, and various vendors present. A great time was had by all, and we are looking forward to doing this again next year! We are so grateful to the wonderful support we receive from our community. The farm looks forward to hosting additional groups in the coming months, and increasing our community outreach. Follow us on Facebook for updates on opportunities to visit us! We appreciate your continued support! L4L Farm Team
